Design for the Street: A European Competition for Inventive & Practical Urban Furniture
Strada Potaissa Design Competition
Redesign the Street. Rethink the Ordinary. Win a Trip to Japan.
Strada Potaissa is a tiny street in downtown Cluj-Napoca, Romania, that has, in just a few years, become one of the country’s most talked-about public spaces — thanks to The Different Flower Market, a bold, Street Delivery-inspired event launched in 2017.
Under the cover of a flower market, we’ve created one of Romania’s most beloved public space activations — a celebration of creativity, aesthetics, and reuse.
The Challenge
To mark our 10th edition in 2026, we’re inviting design and architecture students across Europe to imagine new outdoor modular furniture — benches, chairs, and tables — to be used at next year’s event.
The Catch
Your design must:
Stay under a €6,000 budget (for materials + production)
Use no screws or harmful materials
Seat up to 70 people in flexible arrangements
Fit into 3 cubic meters (transportable in one van)
Be modular, stackable, clever – and look great
If it’s not restricted by our Terms & Conditions, it’s fair game.
The Prize
The winning team (max 2 students) will receive:
Flights to Osaka, Japan from any major European airport
5 nights in a 3-star hotel
Tickets to the Osaka World Expo (early October 2025)
Note: Travel to/from your airport and daily expenses aren’t covered.
The Jury
Judges come from across Europe.
Jury President: Andi Daiszler, founder of Strada Potaissa and president of the Daisler Association, the team running (and funding) this competition. You will meet the rest before September 15th.
